FEEDBACK
Mark Mast, a former student of Sergiu Celibidache and Director of Bayern Philharmonic:
“This event has been a great success, being a stepping stone for the next year’s edition. Instrumentalists and singers from 20 countries have participated in different categories that were part of this event: master classes, rehearsals and concerts of children and adults choirs, of beginners’ orchestras, of medium level and advanced instrumentalists, workshops and movies. Hohenkammers’ inhabitants and many more have visited the castle daily and have attended the concerts organized during the Academy, as the entrance was free of charge. On the 10th of August 2012, the first day of the Academy, over 150 participants have arrived from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Romania, Hungary, Washington an Hawaii. The young musicians from Romania, who arrived on the 11th of August 2012, have had the opportunity, through the Sergiu Celibidache Foundation, to participate at the Violin and Viola Masterclass offered by Jorge Sutil between the 10th and 15th of August 2012, the Double bass Masterclass with Petru Iuga (10th –15th of August 2012), the Bassoon Masterclass with Akio Koyama (15th –20th of August 2012), the Oboe Masterclass with Ingo Goritzki (10th -15th of August 2012), but also to play as a part of the Munich Youth Orchestra, alongside young musicians of different nationalities. They also had free access to the two Workshops that were part of the Summer Academy: “Circle Singing and Bodypercussion” with TaKeTiNa and “Beatboking” with RoBeat“.
Henri Bonamy, conductor of the Munich Youth Orchestra:
“The week I spent in Hohenkammer was a wonderful experience, marked by the friendship between European countries and much more. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the Romanian delegation was numerous and that the high quality of the musicians was a valuable help. I know well this country and I have always admired their talent and enthusiasm. I hope that this collaboration with the Bayern Philharmonic, due to Sergiu Celibidache Foundation in Bucharest, will be the basis for future collaborations on similar projects, thus giving the opportunity to many young musicians to show their own qualities.”
Boris Braune, Project Manager of the Hohenkammer Summer Academy:
The “Summer Academy of the Bayern Philharmonic at the Hohenkammer Castle” took place between the 10th and the 19th of August 2012. The Bayern Philharmonic has invited musicians from all over Europe to take part in this project. Among these, there was also Teodora Ducariu, the representative of the Sergiu Celibidache Foundation in Bucharest, a partner of the project. Teodora has represented the delegation comprised of 16 young Romanian musicians, all participants of the Munich Youth Orchestra, five of them being active in the five Masterclasses. Due to the energy and enthusiasm of these young people, I had an unforgettable musical, multicultural and human experience. First of all, I appreciated the fact that it did not matter how well they spoke English, German or French, the Romanian musicians have always tried to communicate with participants of other nationalities, during the rehearsals as well as outside of them. Their efforts have facilitated cultural adaptation for everybody, in a short period of time. Thus, the time spent in rehearsals, studying a not so easy piece – Symphony no. 5 by P.I. Tchaikovsky – went by easier. Secondly, their professionalism was representative for the Munich Youth Orchestra. The less experienced instrumentalists have had the opportunity to learn many techniques of interpreting in an orchestra, successful attitudes and methods. Moreover, the young Romanian musicians have been cast in the orchestra as concert-maestro, first solo flute, first solo clarinet and first solo bassoon. All of this has led to harmony, which is a prerequisite of such projects. Meanwhile, we are planning our next collaboration with the Sergiu Celibidache Foundation and with the young musicians backed by the Foundation.”
Iulia Goiana , 19 years-old, a participant at the Hohenkammer Summer Academy:
“I thank the Sergiu Celibidache Foundation for the opportunity they’ve given me. I’ve enjoyed spending 7 wonderful days, in exceptional conditions alongside professionals such as Mark Mast and Henri Bonamy and next to valuable and good-humored instrumentalists.”
